The influential role scientific societies play in advancing the field

Organizers and Panelist from the FishCAST Workshop at SCAS 2023 were invited by Canadian Science Publishing to write a blog post about the experience. The workshop entitled “Reflections and Looking Forward” allowed both early career and seasoned researchers to share their experiences with the next generation of aquatic scientists and provide them with valuable insights as they enter their chosen profession. The blog detailed the emergent themes of the workshop, including networking and collaboration, inclusivity and systemic barriers, careers, mental and physical health burnout, and Indigeneity. These themes highlighted the important role that scientific conferences and committees play in welcoming new researchers.
